Hello everyone, and welcome to the week!
But a nice short week to look forward to: in fact of the next 8 days, 50% of them are non-working! And what a scorcher of a weekend it's been too. Let's hope it's a harbinger of good weather and fine walking to come over the summer.
A reminder of the weekend Hold this in your minds just in case it rains all Summer
So this week we've got two great walks to help you get out and about and make the most of the Easter break.
But first some good news from our Chair!
Secretary role for LDWA London group - filled
You may recall that, following Douglas' departure after a long and honourable tenure as Group Secretary, we had a vacancy on the Group Committee. Gordon has been ably filling this role on an interim basis, but the good news is that volunteers have now come forward to fill the role permanently.
Peter, our Chair, wanted to take this opportunity to let everyone know about the new appointments and said:
"We welcome Cathy Phillips and Jeff Golland as joint secretaries of London LDWA. They'll be job-sharing the role, the first time to our knowledge that we've job-shared a committee role. Their skills and abilities dovetail very well, and we look forward to working with them in the future."
So there you have it - two for the price of one and very good news, too. You can contact them by email at london@ldwa.org.uk.

So, turning now to our rhapsodic week - what's in store?
Well with the longer days and better weather, we're back into a rhythm of offering both a midweek evening and a weekend daytime walk most weeks through until the Autumn. This week is no exception and coming up we've actually got two particularly fascinating walks for you to enjoy.
First of all, on Wednesday evening, Julie will be leading a really interesting "Spurs Secret History" walk. If you join her, you'll be able to vist some of the less well known, but historically significant, places and sights related to Tottenham Hotspur football club. And as Julie knows more about Spurs than probably anyone else on the planet, this is sure to be fascinating, even if you're not especially a football fan. If you'd like to go, make your way to Tottenham Hale tube station (Victoria Line) for 18.00 on Wednesday evening
And then, to round off the week with a flourish, on Saturday, Keith will be leading us Up some Downs (and doubtless down some ups, too), in a linear exploration of a part of the North Downs. This 21-miler makes its way from Epsom to Holmwood viat the National Trust tea room at Box Hill where you can get lunch. Perhaps even more enticingly, there's a pub stop after 16 miles too. There can be few better ways of celebrating the long weekend - and you'll also get a fabulous sense of satisfaction at not being one of the millions of people stuck in traffic jams trying to get to a car park where they can pretend to enjoy the fresh air. I imagine that with all this on offer, you will be salivating at the prospect already, so just make your arrangements for getting to Epsom station for 09.00 on Saturday
By the way if you're in search of a healthy treat to celebrate Easter, I'm told that Creme Eggs with a kitkat make a practical vegetarian alternative to traditional boiled eggs and toast soldiers.
And on that note I'll sign off for the week!
Adam
