Dear All
Happy 2017. Hope you're having a good start to the year. At least the sun is shining today, after yesterday's rather damp squib (sorry, Susanne...)
Well - here's a quick test of your London knowledge... Who knows where London's Grand Canyon is? Well - the answer will be revealed later in the email, but first here are few Very Important Notices
Parish Notices
Before you are allowed to read on, there are no less than five(!) Important Notices that you have to read and digest first!

4. Update on the "Capital Challenge" The inaugural "Capital Challenge hike on 1 April is fully subscribed now. Gordon is in the process of contacting participants to check whether there are any drop-outs. If there are, we'll re-open subscriptions and let everyone know. In the meantime, we're always on the look out for Marshals for the walk, and there will be a Marshals' Walk over the route on Sat 4 March, for anyone who will be helping at the event itself. Email capitalchallenge@ldwa.org.uk if you'd like to volunteer or just generally to learn more. Click here for more details of the event.
5. London Countryway?? Dick, one of our stalwart leaders, is considering a circumlondon navigation along the "London Countryway" - a 200-mile route round the perimeter of London, outside the M25. The walk would be spread out over the summer of 2017. At the moment, it's a just the germ of an idea but if you'd be interested, please click this link to find out more.

Whew! Hope I haven't given you indigestion.
So - on to this week's walk. Well, on Saturday, Christopher will be leading a rather fabulous-sounding "South London Extravaganza" walk which promises to explore the hidden village life of inner London. If you would like to go, please be at Deptford Bridge DLR at 09.30. Possibly the most exciting aspect of this hike will be the opportunity it affords to explore no less than London's "Grand Canyon" (which sadly is only visible when the tide is out).
So that's the answer to the question - London's Grand Canyon is actually Deptford Creek - or at least that's what the Creekside Education Trust (click here) would have us believe. Oh and they also promise lashings of "good, clean, muddy fun!"....
Deptford Creek from the air London's Grand Canyon!
So - that's all for now. I hope you have a great week, and don't forget to vote!
Adam
