This month is dominated by the Hunnypot Hundred, whether supporting the event, walking the route on the marshal’s weekend or the main event or “dot watching”. However we recognise that not everyone wants to walk this far and there are currently 3 social walks too.

Hunnypot Hundred Marshals’ Walk
The Marshals’ walk is this coming weekend and good luck to our “Fab Four” (Tracy, Elaine, Gill and Heidi) taking part. There’ll be friendly Essex and Herts faces at a few points – look out at Checkpoint 4 at Cowden Memorial Hall, Chantlers Mead (30.6 miles) and at Checkpoint 7 at the Martindale Centre, Horsted Keynes (52.2 miles) and potentially somewhere else on route!  If you’d like to follow the progress of our walkers here is the dot watchers link:  https://track.trail.live/event/hunnypot-100-marshal-walk 

Hunnypot Hundred Zoom call Tuesday 5th May
Tracy and I will be hosting a Zoom call at 7pm on 5th May for anyone who has entered the Hunnypot Hundred, is supporting someone, helping out at the event, thinking about taking on a Hundred in the future or supporting a future challenge event. It will very informal and be a chance to ask questions, share experiences and hopefully get some feedback from the walkers and supporters at the Marshal’s event. Topics last year included blisters, the best snacks, how to cope without sleep and top tips. Everyone is very welcome, particularly those that have completed a Hundred before and can reassure our newer walkers.

HunnyPot Hundred Challenge
Essex & Herts is responsible for Checkpoint 4 (30.4 miles) at Cowden on the main event (23rd - 25th May) and we’ve also got a team responsible for the kit check and we’re grateful to all those who’ve come forward to offer their support for these key activities. Good luck to all those taking part and we’ll publish details of the “dot watching” link when they are available. If you’ve never followed an event you’ll find it’s quite addictive once you start tracking people!

Sun 10th May 2026 Tewin and Froing from Hertford
Group Walk - 18ml. 9am Hertford – Tewin – Watton – Hertford. From Hartham Lane C.P. SG14 1QR £2 all day. LDWA members who park their car here, and have their membership numbers with them, may claim reimbursement from Paul during the walk. Please contact Paul beforehand, so he has an idea of the number of cars parking. Plan to leave at 9.00 sharp. First break for 20 mins after 7 miles at Tewin Stores. Sun 17th May 2026 Steve & Ginny's windmill walk from Mountnessing
Group Walk - 17ml. 8.30am From Mountnessing village hall free c.p. CM15 OUG. Please note 8.30am start, to allow time to visit the windmill before it closes. (GR TQ631978). Walk from Mountnessing to Blackmore, Fryerning, Ingatestone, and Buttsbury finishing with a "Walk inside Mountnessing windmill". Please bring food & drink for the whole day. Lunch stop at Mill Green, which has logs & benches for sitting on, with your picnic lunch. At Mill Green, there is also a pub called The Cricketers, for drinks & toilets. Sat 30th May 2026 Millers, Clergy and Romans
Group Walk - 17ml. 9am From Heartwood Forest car park, Sandridge. What3words ///Pushy.river.inform. (GR TL168108). Walk through part of Heartwood Forest up to Redbournbury Mill at 6 miles for an opportunity to buy bread / baked goods from the baker or have a quick peek in the mill. We then head to Verulamium park and St Albans cathedral where we’ll lunch in the park at approximately 9.5 miles, perhaps taking in the old Roman wall and the Roman mosaic floor and the cathedral. There is a café in the park  so a chance to grab a drink. Return via Childwickbury and Sandridgebury. Parking is free in Heartwood Forest. We will make a short detour at the beginning of the walk to pass some public toilets. Please bring packed lunch and drinks for the walk. Sorry no dogs allowed. C: Sue Gooch T: 07850712967

Weekend Away 2027
Later in May Lizzie, our Walks Secretary hopes to be sharing details of the planned 2027 Weekend Away. Next year’s destination is Buxton and it will be an early April date. Hf Holidays have just bought a new place in Buxton and are decorating and modifying it this year ready for 2027 bookings. Details of rooms and prices will be shared when they are available, so keep an eye on your In Box, and find out how you can apply for a place.
