A quick reminder of our upcoming social walks in May and Hobble plans for June!

 Sun 17th May 2026 Steve & Ginny's windmill walk from Mountnessing
Group Walk - 17ml. 8.30am From Mountnessing village hall free c.p. CM15 OUG. Please note 8.30am start, to allow time to visit the windmill before it closes. (GR TQ631978). Walk from Mountnessing to Blackmore, Fryerning, Ingatestone, and Buttsbury finishing with a "Walk inside Mountnessing windmill". Please bring food & drink for the whole day. Lunch stop at Mill Green, which has logs & benches for sitting on, with your picnic lunch. At Mill Green, there is also a pub called The Cricketers, for drinks & toilets. Sat 30th May 2026 Millers, Clergy and Romans
Group Walk - 17ml. 9am From Heartwood Forest car park, Sandridge. What3words ///Pushy.river.inform. (GR TL168108). Walk through part of Heartwood Forest up to Redbournbury Mill at 6 miles for an opportunity to buy bread / baked goods from the baker or have a quick peek in the mill. We then head to Verulamium park and St Albans cathedral where we’ll lunch in the park at approximately 9.5 miles, perhaps taking in the old Roman wall and the Roman mosaic floor and the cathedral. There is a café in the park  so a chance to grab a drink. Return via Childwickbury and Sandridgebury. Parking is free in Heartwood Forest. We will make a short detour at the beginning of the walk to pass some public toilets. Please bring packed lunch and drinks for the walk. Sorry no dogs allowed. C: Sue Gooch T: 07850712967

Herts Hobble 

This year’s Hobble is on Sunday 21^st June and  will be starting from Baldock Scout Hut again, with  the main checkpoint at  Benington  Village Hall, and additional refreshment  points in a couple of places.

To run a successful event, we need a team of marshals at  the start, finish and the checkpoints - can you help us out?  Don’t worry  if you haven’t checkpointed before,  there will  always be  an  experienced marshal around to  help you.

We are holding  a supported  marshals’ walk on Sunday 7^th June  to  give all  marshals the opportunity to walk (and check) the route and gain their certificate and  badge. The marshals' walk also  counts towards the Essex and Herts Triple Challenge.

So, if you can help  on the Hobble for all or part of the day, can you let  Jackie know at jackiecburnett92@gmail.com 

Can you also  let her know whether you would like to  do the marshals’ walk, and if so  which distance  - there is a choice of 26 or 18 miles  

Finally good luck to everyone taking part in the Hunnypot Hundred.  Essex and Herts are running Checkpoint 4 at Cowden Village Hall at 30.6 miles – we look forward to seeing you there!
