Helping on the Event
Any LDWA 100 requires a very large number of willing volunteers, to man checkpoints (keeping entrants fed and watered and supported), to marshal road crossings, to work behind the scenes on baggage or entrant transportation, to process the finishers.... and so on!
Whilst many local groups are already planning on sending stalwart marshals to man checkpoints and for some roles that they regularly volunteer for, there is always room for more helpers. If you feel that you would like to offer your services on the event, please email help@jurassic100.co.uk . There is more information below on the types of roles available; let us know if there are roles that you would particularly like but if you are free and easy, or a bit lost, don't worry, just let us know.
As always, anyone who contributes to the Main Event in a substantive way is able to walk the Marshals' Event (at a discounted entry fee) on the early May bank holiday weekend if they wish (subject to the same rules as for the Main Event re LDWA membership and qualification).
We have an energetic and sociable team here at the J100; please know that we will welcome you with open arms!
Volunteer roles for LDWA Jurassic 100
To whet your appetite for the task ahead, here is a taste of the roles available. Have a look at the list and let us know when you’re available and what you fancy covering. Go on, it’ll be fun!
The longer shifts will have guaranteed rest periods as no-one is at their best when exhausted.
We will try and place you as requested but if you have second favourite options, please give those too. If you don’t mind what you do/ where you go just give us your availability and we’ll accommodate you with something fitting the bill.
If you have special skills then please pop that on your form:
- If you undertook a specific role at Camel Teign 100 or another 100 and want to do it again
- If you have a food safety qualification
- If you have a first aid qualification
If you’d like to know more, we hold face-to-face meetings bimonthly, so look out for details of dates and meeting places in the Cornwall & Devon LDWA monthly newsletter, the regular emails from C&D secretary Ian Glen or the C&D Facebook page.

- Role = Set up checkpoint as per checkpoint manual. prepare and serve food. Clear up/ clean. Manage left over food/drink and waste as agreed for that checkpoint and stated in the checkpoint manual.
- Sleep for volunteers managed by team lead.
- If you live near a checkpoint, please make this clear in your volunteer form.
- Times and days people are needed as given in overall event information in the public drive and later on in checkpoint manuals. For details if needed, please contact: checkpoints@jurassic100.co.uk.
B: Control team – lead + assistants, tracker watchers, transport hub.
- Safety roles performed with shifts to make sure you get some sleep. To ensure the event runs smoothly. Variety of roles including dot watching, co-ordinating vehicle responses for people and food deliveries, liaising with checkpoints.
- Overall control team lead = Kieran via chair@jurassic100.co.uk

- Set up finish desk who track retirees and finishers using PACER/ trackers.

- Baggage reclaim
- Finish desk – likely to be led by Richard May.
- Managing sleeping area(s) at HQ and All Saints Hall for main event, and within Axminster Football Club for marshals event.
