Social and Recce Walks for J100

Cornwall and Devon LDWA have an active social walks programme, and will be holding social walks along the J100 route for any LDWA members wishing to recce the event route, or to walk parts of it - or the whole thing - in accessible chunks. Because the route is an elongated circle, it lends itself to smaller circular routes joining sections of both limbs, or alternatively, use of bus/rail routes to enable linear walks of the sections.

For Cornwall and Devon members who complete the route by attending all the social walks, a special certificate will be available.

Upcoming walks

Sat 15 Aug 2026 - Hold my Beer! 21.5 miles.

Start from Seaton Wave statues on the sea front and finish at Budleigh Salterton. A linear walk following the Jurassic 100 route. Visiting Sidmouth and Otterton and finishing in Budleigh Salterton. Mostly along the coast path with diversions inland to Salcombe Regis and Otterton. An Undulating route for the most part. This will require one way transport so it is essential to contact Emma (route@jurassic100.co.uk) at least a week beforehand if you intend to join us. There may be a charge for transport depending what can be arranged. More information: https://ldwa.org.uk/CornwallAndDevon/E/33811/hold-my-beer.html

Sat 5 Sept 2026 - Where the Exe meets the sea - 26.5 miles

Meet at the free car park in Robert Way, Newton Poppleford SY086897 We walk to the war memorial bus stop to take the scheduled 157 bus at 07:49 and its £3.00 if you pay. We get off the bus at the Millroy Cottage stop at 08.13 and take the short walk to the river Otter to join the J100 route; SY075830. An alternative start would be 08.20 from this point - but the walk finishes in Newton Poppleford so you'd need to find your way back from there.

The route is a linear one starting from near Budleigh Salterton. The first section to East Budleigh will be along the river Otter. We continue now on the J100 route along footpaths to Knowle before heading toward Exmouth along the disused railway and shared cycle track. Then up to the Geoneedle and on to the marina along the cycleway to Lympstone and Exton before footpaths to Woodbury. Over Woodbury Common and Harpford Common back to Newton Poppleford. https://ldwa.org.uk/CornwallAndDevon/E/33815/where-the-exe-meets-the-sea.html

A linear route from Newton Poppleford following the East Devon Way to Colyton.  Park Colyton. More details to follow. https://ldwa.org.uk/CornwallAndDevon/E/33816/over-the-hills-and-farway.html
