Sat 2nd Nov 2024

Walk Details:

Event Type
Group Walk
Region
Southern England
Local Group
Surrey
Distance
26ml.
Start Time
09:00
Route
Holmwood Station(RH5 4RB or ///chimp.potato.weedy), use free on road parking. Train users BEWARE: Holmwood is a small isolated country village; the last train will have gone (18:30) before this walk finishes, and it may be difficult to get an uber or taxi. To get home pre-arrange a lift to Dorking Main railway station - where mainline trains continue to run to Victoria (say) until late

5 loops crossing these Surrey Greensand Hills - Leith, Holmbury, Pitch, Reynards and Winterfold

General Notes
Hilly (c 4600ft ascent), as climbing Ben Nevis (4413ft) from sea level & back takes 4460ft & 15ml. Mostly moderate pace (3MPH+) with a few steep ascents and descents that will be taken slowly and surely. Bring torch as sunset is at 16:30, and even at 3MPH after stops the walk will probably end after 19:00. Bring picnic snacks, lunch and fluid as we won't pass open shops or pubs. Please email Walk Leader before November 1st to ask to come on the walk (and help ensure enough lifts are available). Provide: your name, LDWA number, whether you would come by car or train and - if by car - whether you could afterwards give lift(s) to Dorking Main railway station to any who come by train. There will be a night walk on this route in June 2025
