Unfortunately due to the overnight deterioration in the weather conditions, i.e. heavy snow and extreme low temperatures making driving conditions hazardous, the Tandem event was unable to go ahead.
Raynet and many checkpointers were unable to get through to Goathland, some checkpoints on both routes were inaccessible by road. We are aware of several car incidents, including two of our own committee members.
Thanks for the understanding of the entrants who turned up, although they were extremely frustrated at being unable to do the event, they were very supportive of our decision.
Cleveland Group have still incurred costs as if the event had taken place, with many pies in the Butchers freezer - which we hope to offer to a charity, the rest of the fresh food was made available to those entrants who did their own walk and called in at the hall afterwards on what turned out to be a glorious winter day.
