General Notes
Ann Sayer, MBE, 1936-2020, the supreme Long Distance walker of her generation, when asked to name a favourite walk replied My Training Walk! This is it and includes that 6.5.mile circular walk. This begins at Teddington Lock and goes along Thames Path to Richmond Bridge, on the other side of the Thames to the Lock mainly via residential roads. One can understand why Ann so liked this route. In a relatively small area there is so much to see and admire, the river itself is often lively and always attractive and depending on the time of day and the weather it can be so different. After return to Teddington Station, 7.5 miles, there is an option to do a figure of 8 and go on into Bushy Park for a 5 mile circuit. In Bushy Park the extension, inspired by Ann Sayer Trail Walks, follows the Cobblers Walk, then into the Water Gardens and south along the London Loop to Bushy Park Visitor Centre. The return is via Diana Fountain, passing Heron Pond and the site Eisenhowers 1943 Headquarters and back to Teddington Station. This is a short, relaxed walk for members only. With a sociable lunch (at a very reasonably priced pub near Teddington station) the walk is designed for long-standing members who no longer walk with us on a regular basis. We would not expect those outside this category to join us; however, members who knew Ann Sayer are also welcome. Please advise the organiser if you intend to come, he will book you in for lunch and send full details about the walk (and will notify you of any changes)
