Wednesday 12th August 2026 

“The new Thames Ferry” Linear Wargrave to Cookham

Event Type:Group Walk. 

Region: Southern England / London
 
Distance: 14 miles
 
Start Time: 10:50. Wargrave station.  GWR Paddington at 10.08, or Elizabeth line, change at Twyford for the 10.45 shuttle train to Wargrave.
 
Route: Chiltern hills and Thames path. We will cross the Thames using the new Bryan Ferry at Temple Lock. (£2.50 cash or card). Finish at Cookham station for the shuttle train to Maidenhead and GWR or Elizabeth line return to Paddington.
 
Notes: Bring sufficient food and liquid refreshments. Moderate pace. Woodland facilities. LDWA membership card has a space on it for adding emergency contact details, all members are encouraged to carry this during the walk. It would be helpful to contact the walk leader to confirm if you wish to come on this walk (LDWA membership number required please).

Greenwich Meridian Trail - Part V Ravensbourne to New Addington

 Event Type: Group Walk.

Distance: 8 miles
 
Start Time: 18:00
 
Route: Meet at Ravensbourne train station. 17:26 train from Blackfriars arrives at 17:58. Part suburban - part countryside. Finish at New Addington tram terminus.
 
Notes: This is the fifth of a series of mid-week walks covering the sections of the Greenwich Meridian Trail (GMT) which fall within the M25. (The GMT is a route which follows as near a possible the zero degree longitude/Prime Meridian line.)

Saturday 15th August

Wendover Tops

Event Type: Group Walk. 

Region: Southern England / Buckinghamshire
 
Distance: 20 miles
 
Start Time: 9:20
 
Route: Wendover station (train departs Marylebone 08.27). To Coombe Hill (highest viewpoint in the Chilterns) then through assorted woods to the county tops of Haddington Hill (Buckinghamshire) and Pavis Wood (Hertfordshire).
 
Notes: The lunch stop will be by the Wendover Woods cafe, which has the only public toilets on the route. There will be no other opportunity to get food and drink on the route until we return to Wendover (Morrisons and pubs) so make sure you have sufficient for the pre-lunch and post-lunch sections.
