Lincoln North by Northwest 190317

Nine walkers took part on a day when rain threatened but managed to hold off until we finished. Good walking conditions underfoot prevailed. After a saunter along Brayford Wharf and the ascent of Steep Hill, a mile or so of road walking took us out of the city to the carriage drive near Burton where we headed east to Riseholme. We took our morning break in the shelter of one of the college building before heading northwest to cross the A15 near the Lincs Showground. A steady pace into a strong headwind took us to S Carlton then on paths and bridleways to N Carlton and the furtherest point north, Scampton village  Lunch in Scampton, some in the Dambusters Inn, some in the Red Arrows bus shelter before heading south again. Paths and tracks took us back to S Carlton then W to the Catchwater Drain banking and the final leg of the route back to Bishops Bridge and the cars. A mileage total just short of 20. Thanks to David W for his local knowledge and for organising the pub stop and thanks to everyone who turned out.
