Christmas walk and tipple

 Christmas walk and Tipple

Terry led this walk which started from Goulceby where 17 of us plus 2 dogs assembled in the 3 Horse Shoes pub car park .

With a nice crispy feel to the weather and a back wind we set off cross country out of Goulceby over to Moses Farm then a bit of road walking up towards Donington on Bain , up to the top of Stenigot Hill and on  a series of farm tracks and pathways which eventually go as far as Gayton le Wold . But the pretty setting of Biscathorpe park was our destination where refreshments in the form of mince pies , sausage rolls , whisky , sloe gin , ginger wine and port were shared out and enjoyed by all (except probably the dogs) .

But all good things have to come to and end , a Christmas lunch beckoned so it was  a matter of cracking on along the Viking Way almost to Donington on Bain then a slight diversion up towards Benniworth Haven . Our leader was temporarily distracted when he was engaged in conversation by one of the female walkers in the group ; this plus the effects of too much whisky and ginger led  to us going adrift a bit but after a meander round a grass field we were  back on course , picking up th Viking Way again back to Goulceby . After a quick change of footwear we soon transfered into the pub where some spouses and friends had already gathered ; we all enjoyed a bit of socialising , a bit of drinking and quite a bit of eating .

What a pleasant way to round off  the year's walking programme .

Our thanks go to Julia for the sausage rolls , to Nicole and Terry for the mince pies , to Terry and Ian for the liquid refreshments and to everyone who turned up for the event .Finally , thanks again to Lorna for taking the photographs .
