Spilsby Saunter

Spilsby Saunter Sunday 15th February 2015

On a day which started quite misty and murky but fine , there was a good turn out of 20 members , several from outside our area ,  to do Dave Oxley's circular walk  from Spilsby .

We went through Little Steeping , Great Steeping and finished up at the site of the old WW2 RAF Spilsby airfield for our morning stop.  By this time the mist had lifted and we enjoyed some almost Sping-time weather with clearing skies and some welcome sunshine . Hearts were further warmed by sloe gin kindly provided by Dave .

On to Firsby , over the railway line twice , to  Irby in the Marsh  then Burgh le Marsh for a lunch stop where some members visited the local pub in the market place, the Fleece Inn , to sample their fare .

After lunch we pressed on to Bratoft then through the park at Gunby Hall , skirting by Candlesby to return to the old Spilsby airfield for a break , finally to Holton Holgate and returning  back in to Spilsby to complete a 22 mile circular .

Thanks to Dave for the sloe gin and leading the walk in this infrequently visited area of Lincs , also to Lorna for the photographs .
