The Horncastle Round

On a fine but breezy day 23 of us and 2 dogs gathered for Tony's walk around Horncastle , following the Viking Way along the canal out of town then on to the disused railway track and past some interesting metalwork sculptures .Leaving the Viking Way we made tracks over to Dalderby then through Scrivelsby Park past grazing deer to Marehan on the Hill where we were able to sit in the quaint little church for our morning stop . On then to High Toynton , Low Toynton and West Ashby where we made another stop for lunch at the church , some of the group preferring the recently re-opened West Ashby Arms pub for their refreshment . After lunch our route took us past Thimbleby mill to Thimbleby then Langton and Thornton to then descend back down to the Viking Way again and return to the starting point where Tony had laid on cakes to round off an enjoyable walk . Thanks to Tony for leading the walk , to Lorna for the photos and to Barbara and Jean for making such lovely cakes .
