When I started walking the South West Coast Path, I did not anticipate that I would write a book about the experience; indeed, I never even planned to walk the entire path. However, after each day's walk, I would make a few notes on what I had seen and done, plus I took many photographs to record the adventure. These notes and photographs became the basis for periodical summaries to family and friends of my progress. As walking some of the path evolved into finishing the entire path, so similarly the intention to take notes and photographs as a record became transformed into the possibility of a book. Walking the path was a life enhancing adventure; writing about it has enriched the experience further.
If you like the West Country, coastal walking, or dogs, you will enjoy this book. It is not a guide, "take the stile in the corner then turn right at the crossroads" type of book. Nor is it an exhaustive description or reference to all the interesting things to see and do on the path. It is my idiosyncratic take on a beautiful part of the world and the considerable physical challenge of walking the South West Coast Path. It is laced with personal anecdotes, memories and thoughts. The book is, however, laid out in a way, with a description of each day's walk, that will be a helpful complement to the official guides.
