I was just enjoying my post-event cuppa at the Daffodil Dawdle when a women in her (I guess) late forties loomed over me and started congratulatingly me effusively for finishing in front of her. 'It's always great to see people do well when they're old!' she burbled, as if I had whooshed past her with bingo wings flapping and judiciously wielding my Zimmer frame. I was about to retort, 'I'm not THAT b***** old!' when the ghastly thought occurred to me that perhaps I do look longer in the tooth, at 61, than I fondly think.
Or maybe she was just peeved that I ran past her in the final mile...
