At last we have an OS map out of lockdown & the Anytime Challenges can resume from this week .

The route description , questions & gpx for the South Pennine 24 Anytime Challenge has been sent out to entrants , who have from this Saturday 17 April all the way thru to Saturday 14 August to take part . Now's a rare opportunity to try this winter event route with the sun shining (at least today it is !!) and completions possible into summer . Online entry is open all the way thru to the final date for completions (14 August) , so if you want a personal challenge & to get back out in the hills either going solo or with a small group of friends here's an ideal opportunity . It's only 6.70 to enter and five pounds from every entry is donated to Oldham Mountain Rescue Team .

Hi Ian
I know the walk would be well planned from you all just a shame it isnt the official walk always fantastic atmosphere and fun. Cant wait till you get a walks program going although I would have to start on the steadiar walks then build up to the toughies you all do.
See you all soon hopefully Jeff

Hi Jeff ,

Thanks for entering : I've not quite gone off the edge of the world just yet ,but if it keeps raining here in the Calder Valley I might float off somewhere by the end of the week ! Just as well the flood defence work has been completed ! There's nothing stopping you from entering or going round multiple times as you wish , but given you have four months to complete the challenge March to July there's no need to go out in adverse weather necessitating an alternative route . We'll keep that "up the sleeve" for the usual winter outing . Up to six of us in South Pennine have been meeting up informally as the guidelines have allowed on & off since about June , thou it will be good to get a regular programme going with various groups & of course the events back on sometime next year !

Cheers , Ian

If you are seeking to quench your thirst for a Challenge Event during these trying times we may have something for you !

For 2021 the South Pennine 24 is going ahead as an Anytime Challenge . (The “usual supported SP24 scheduled for Sat 27 Feb will instead next be staged during February 2022) .

Entrants snap their start & finish times from a clock displayed in the notice case at Dovestone Sailing Club & answer twelve questions set along the route , with an e-certificate & place on the SP24 AC Hall of Fame for completions .

Complete the challenge anytime from Saturday 13 March until Saturday 10 July 2021 : a route description with questions to answer plus a walked gpx file of the route (for use with gps) will be emailed from 08 March .

It's just 6.70 to enter for LDWA Members only (sorry , due to insurance requirements NO entry for non members) with five pounds from every entry donated to Oldham Mountain Rescue Team . Like all MRTs they will have lost countless fund raising opportunities this year so hopefully we can get a bumper entry ; and with four months to take part you can enjoy the route during springtime or early summer instead of the depths of winter !

Start / Finish is Dovestone Sailing Club near Greenfield (c.14 miles from Manchester / c.10 miles from Holmfirth) . P&D parking four pounds .

The SP24 Anytime Challenge is self supported & self navigated with a shop just over half way (14.4 miles) to replenish supplies .

Immediate online entry via Sientries , link here https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?elid=Y&event_id=7800

SP24 webpage link here https://ldwa.org.uk/SouthPennine/W/7527/2021-sp24-anytime-challenge.html
