Update on June 2016: the Dales Way is reported [fully] open after the damage done by Storm Desmond in December 2015.

1. A new bridge over the River Mint has been constructed and was reported open in October 2016. Work funded by Friends of the Lake District, done by Cumbria County Council (CCC)'s Countryside Access Team.

2. The Sprint Mill footbridge has been replaced (work by CCC and the Mill owners) and was open to walkers in January 2017.

Other bridge work:

3. A new bridge at Birks Mill, Sedbergh is complete and was opened in December 2016.

4. The bridge over the beck at Grayrigg Foot has been replaced, also by CCC. Reported open in October 2016.

As of Mid-May 2016, two diversions remain:

1. A footbridge over the River Mint near Patton Bridge is closed. A short diversion leads via Bracken Fold and Haveriggs to Patton Bridge.
2. On the approach to Burneside, the Sprint Mill footbridge is closed, but the Sprint road bridge is still being used by pedestrians (though closed to vehicles). A proposed diversion by Gurnal Bridge is in place should Sprint road bridge be closed to pedestrians.

The Dales Way LDP has been closed in three places due to flood damage. There is no prospect of these closures being reversed in the near future, but alternative routes and diversions are advised by the Dales Way Association (DWA).

The paths involved are:

Near Briggsflatts. Landslip into the river Rawthey.
Chapel Beck. Between Thwaite and Crook of Lune Bridge. New river channel cut
in front of the bridge.
Footbridge over the river Mint. Closed 13th January 2016.
Bridge over the river Sprint leading to Sprint Mill cottages and the road bridge
over the river Sprint. Both closed.
