Sun 8th Sep 2024

Walk Details:

Event Type
Group Walk
Region
Northern England
Local Group
West Lancashire
Distance
19ml.
Start Time
9am
Route
Meet at 9am in the village of Ramsgill. Grid Reference SE 119 710. Post Code HG3 5RL. On road parking in the village around the green, opposite the Yorke Arms. Sufficient cars will then be taken to Pateley Bridge, where the walk for the day will begin. Public Toilets can be found at the beginning of the walk on the opposite side of the road by the bridge over the river

The day will begin by following the River Nidd north to the village of Wath & then continue north alongside the Gouthwaite Reservoir to the villages of Bouthwaite & Lofthouse. We pick up the River Nidd again, although often dry in parts, & then follow the route high above the valley to Scar House Reservoir. This is the most northerly point of the walk. We cross the dam & then climb up and over In Moor, which at 1,426ft is the highest point on the walk, & on to the village of Middlesmoor, with its lovely church overlooking the Upper Nidd valley. The final few miles of day back to Ramsgill includes How Stean Gorge. We will use the cars left in Ramsgill in the morning to return to Pateley Bridge before heading home

General Notes
Can you please make sure that you contact the leader beforehand if you want to attend this walk so that I can ensure that the logistics with the cars work. Can I also stress that you do not have to attend all three walks, you can come along to any of individual days. Shorter walk versions are available but you will need to contact the Leader beforehand to make arrangements
