I love this walk! It begins with a train journey & then a trip on the ferry across the River Mersey. Great fun! You could meet us in Liverpool at the Pier Head if that is more convenient. (11 am ferry) The date could change if there is a train strike. The journey starts at Newton-le-Willows train station ticket office at 9.25. WA12 9SF. There is plenty of free parking next to the station. If the c.p is full you can find street parking on Southworth Road. 9.40 train into Liverpool Lime Street, walk down to Pier Head to catch the ferry over the Mersey (included in the ticket price). We will be catching the 11 am ferry. Walk along the coast to New Brighton. Lunch at New Brighton: fish & chips on the front... the best way to eat them!!! Continue to walk along the Wirral coast towards West Kirkby. The intention is to walk to West Kirkby but there are plenty of opportunities to jump on a train back if you've had enough!! Train back to Liverpool then Newton-le-Willows arriving at approximately 6 pm. The return train ticket costs £6.00 & includes the cost of the ferry trip. It's best to buy the ticket at the station as I don't think you can buy that particular ticket online. Wear suitable clothing & bring enough food & drink for the day. Don't forget to learn the words for the ferry song!! What's it called again?
