Twice Brewed

This is a two day walk run by John and Gaynor, staying over at or around Twice Brewed just off Hadrian's Wall. Full Details of the Route to be sent to those who decide to participate in the walk. It is essential that you contact John in advance as there is coach transport involved & he needs to know numbers

The group are going to run a walking trip to Hadrian's Wall in August 2024. The trip is going to centered on the Twice Brewed hotel which is located in Once Brewed, near Hexham - Tel 01434 344534 The walk is going to be run over two days - Wednesday, 28th August & Thursday 29th August. The basic format is to go on day one by coach from Twice Brewed west towards Carlisle to a suitable point to join the wall trail, then walk back to Twice Brewed. Day two is a repeat but this time to head east towards Newcastle then walk back to Twice Brewed. Each days walk will be approximately 15 to 17 miles in length, this will be confirmed once the definite start points have been identified. Its a fantastic opportunity to walk alongside the most dramatic & preserved sections of the wall as it runs over the Whin Sill & possibly answer that age old question " What did the Romans ever do for us?" . Twice Brewed is a fantastic walkers pub with its old micro brewery which does produce the most amazing beers. It has a excellent drying room & the food is outstanding. At the moment they have 14 rooms available per night & 2 of their stargazing cabins. A superior double room is £140 per night. Standard double is £130. Single accommodation is £110. The cabins are £140 or £110 for single. This is on a bed and breakfast basis. There is other accommodation available in the area including directly next door to Twice Brewed is a very modern YMCA hostel which is part of the Sill visitors centre & also Vallum Lodge, a B&B about 250m down the road - www.vallum-lodge.co.uk. If you are interested in attending the walk & wish to stay at Twice Brewed can I ask that you book directly with them but let them know you are with the group, a £40 deposit is required. They are currently holding rooms for the group so if you are intending on joining what promise to be an outstanding trip may I suggest you act quickly. If you do reserve accommodation can you let myself or Gaynor know as we will need numbers for the coach. It is projected that we will be leaving Twice Brewed each morning at 09.30. Its an approximate 2 hour drive for most of us so staying overnight on Tuesday 27th may be a sensible option. Twice Brewed is located less than a mile away from the Vindolanda Roman fort & museum. If you haven't visited this previously it has to be considered a definite must see whilst in the area. Hope to see many of you on this trip John and Gaynor
