Chip Off the Old Fell

After some challenging research, Dave finally settled on a route out of Chipping that wouldn't have us all dragging each other out of ditches and peat bogs all day.  Which was just as well as the day dawned very cold but with a promise of snow flurries all day.

We climbed up Parlick to start the day and walked around the rim of the ridge from the summit in enjoyable sunshine but very very bleak and cold winds. From here we did the only peat bog dance required all day, and somehow managed to nagivate across the top and down to a very beautiful hidden valley which you would never have believed existed from the summits.  I still don't know what it was called.

The walk then descended to more familiar territory as those of us involved in earlier years started to recognise sections of our old Halloween Happening event which ran from Slaidburn.  We were confidently pointing to summits now and naming the tops.

A final section along the river brought us back to Chipping just as darkness fell (well, a little bit afterwards but we didn't know about the footpath diversion did we!).  Chipping has three excellent pubs so it was only polite to give at least one of them a try.  And we will be back later this year to sample the others when we tackle the latter stages of the Two Roses Way.

Viva la Chipping!

Brrr
Hurry up, it's getting dark and I can't read the map!
