That's Lyth Marshall's Walk

Marshalls enjoy the January Sunshine

After so much talk about avalanches on Helvellyn this week, it was reassuring to know that this Sunday only involved the rather more gentle slopes of Scout Scar and Whitbarrow!  As we approach the date of our annual event, nine of us set out from Scout Scar at 8.30 to see if all was well along the route.

It was a pretty chilly start, but we soon got into the swing of things.  Ron decided he would collect Grid References at every corner and turn, which kept us all amused as he only had on his Woolworth's glasses which are not much cop for reading his GPS!  This led to a bit of team effort with Ron shouting stop, Ann getting out a pen and paper and Nicky calling out the numbers (hope she got them right!).

Anyway, it was a lovely sunny day and we were all having a great time.  So if the grid references send you astray on the day, never mind, we had a good time collecting them.  There was the added bonus of a cuppa at George's house on the way back.

Some of the group are a little camera shy to say the least, but we did manage to get a few shots, by subterfuge and hiding!  So we hope you enjoy these.  You could hardly see any snow on the tops, let alone any potential avalanches, but I am assured there was a rather nasty looking bit of snow on Helvellyn with a cracked cornice today - I'll take your word for it Mr Fell Top Assessor!
