Oxford Weekend Friday 5th - Sunday 7th September 2025

Dear walkers and adventurers,
Oxford, city of ‘dreaming spires’, and world renound seat of learning with the university, centuries of history and beautiful landmarks.
This long weekend will feature three guided walks, a touch of arts and culture and opportunities for relaxed socialising. Everything is completely optional and everyone is free to dip in and out of any activities as they wish. Full details will follow.
The plan is to have one group meal on the Saturday night at a restaurant in the centre of Oxford.
A WhatsApp group will be created a few weeks prior to the trip date for group information and photos.
The organisers are responsible for walk provision, group meal planning, guidance and advice. The participant is responsible for their own accommodation and transport.
For anyone not able to make the specific walk then GPX files for each walk are available on request.

Walks
Friday 5th – The Oxford Canal 11.5 miles - Linear.
Meeting point: Oxford business school (adjacent to Oxford Railway station). Start and end of the walk.
Description: We will catch the 9.45am train (possible revision nearer the time) from Oxford central station to Tackley (15 minute journey). We will then walk down to pick up the canal at Pigeon Lock which will lead us back into Oxford. This is a flat walk which consists of easy walking along the tow path. Please bring a packed lunch and drinks to sustain you for the entire walk. We will endeavour to find a pub/cafe stop along the route if at all possible.
Interest: River Cherwell, Shipton on Cherwell, Shipton Manor, Roundham Lock, Kidlington Green Lock, Kins canal bridge, Duke’s Lock bridge,
NOTE: Train Ticket Single Adult fare is £4.80. Group save tickets available for six people.
Saturday 6th – Southwest 18miles - Circular.
Meeting point: Oxford business school (adjacent to Oxford Railway station). Start and end of the walk.
Description: This is an 18 mile circular heading south and west from Oxford towards Abingdon. The route is through rolling countryside with varying grass/farmland, picturesque villages, woodland and river path back into Oxford. We pass a couple of pubs which may be used for refreshment purposes. but please bring a packed lunch and drinks to sustain you for the entire walk.
Interest: North Hinksey, Raleigh Park, Cunmoor Hill, Greenbelt Way, Bagley Wood, Boars Hill, Sunningwell, Radley Park, Radley College and the Thames Path.
Sunday 7th – Outer & Inner Oxford 9 miles - Two Loops.
Meeting point: Oxford business school (adjacent to Oxford Railway station). Start and end of the walk.
Description: This is a two loop walk of inner and outer Oxford. An easy walk that encompasses the beauty of Oxford taking in many of the popular tourist areas.
Interests: Initial loop covers the Thames path, Christchurch college grounds, South Park, St Catherines college, University park, Jericho, Oxford canal to finish. The inner loop follows on with a 3 mile tour of many of the popular city highlights.
