December 2025 Update
Welcome to the December Walks Update the last newsletter of the year. I can’t believe we are almost in December already!
We have an exciting month ahead with the Christmas Lunch Walk, a couple of weekend walks and the final Autumn Wednesday walk. A few of us from the group are also venturing north to Yorkshire to take part in The Rudolph Romp so Santa hats are at the ready!
We will be starting the new year with the New Years Day Walk and Dip….hopefully the sea will be nice and warm! All welcome swim optional…

November has been a busy month with 6 social walks and some reccees keeping members busy.
We are always looking for walks leaders in new areas so if you have a nice walk in mind, let us know. Someone more experienced will always help you out/ reccee it with you should you wish.....
The weather has been mixed but definitely advisable to pack hat gloves n waterproofs as well as your lunch!

Andy and myself attended the groups weekend on the 7,8,9th November in Lemington Spa. Sarah, Julian and Richard were also there with their NEC hats on so Norfolk and Suffolk showed how strong our group is.. The event was an opportunity to network & share experiences with other groups and the main topic this year is volunteering, why we do it and how to get and keep volunteers etc....
We had some interesting discussions. There was a 22mile walk and talk on the Saturday. Workshops on Sunday. Questions & answers to NEC and a really interesting talk by ldwa legend Ken Fawlner (south of Scotland? Member) on the lejog walk he and his wife completed this year, 50years after their first completion. Lots of great statistics around accommodation, boots/ trainers worn out etc
Talking of which, Jayne is still on the lookout for volunteer marshals for the Winter Poppyline, a fifty mile event in Norfolk on February 14th/15th. Please contact Jayne.cook1963@btinternet.com if you can help. It doesn't have to be for the whole even either, a few hours at the start or even help clearing up Sunday morning will be appreciated. Our newish club Aprons will be provided on loan in the kitchen and don’t forget if you marshal 3 events you'll get a very fashionable Norfolk & Suffolk marshals t shirt with the bootprints on the back.

2. Landscape, any photo taken on an ldwa social or event that captures the range of areas offered by ldwa walk.

Upcoming Walks Schedule

Group Walk - 18ml. 9:00 George Street car park, George Street, Brandon, IP27 0BX. Car park has no charge. (GR TL785865). From George Street car park we head out to do a loop around Santon Downham, heading back towards Brandon along Hereward Way / St Edmunds Way. We then head towards Weeting picking up a track past Belvedere Wood leading into Hockwold-cum-Wilton. This is likely to be the lunch stop.
After lunch there is some canal & riverside walking before picking up Hereward Way back towards Brandon
General Notes
OS Expl map 229. What three words: Cuddled, Magnitude, Reframe. Paths along the route are varied but mainly good. However, expect some wet grass & (hopefully only a little) mud due to the time of year. There are shops along the route but please bring enough food & drink in case they are not open. Dogs welcome; there are some sections of the walk where dogs must be on a lead.

Autumn Wednesday Shorty From Holbrook
Group Walk - 14ml. 9:30 Car Park off Holbrook village Hall Green Post Code IP9 2PZ. (GR TM168365). Heading out of Holbrook along the River Stour through Stutton, Tattingstone & back via Holbrook Park & Cutlers Woods. Please ensure you bring a packed Lunch as we do not pass a shop. Dogs welcome.

Group Walk - 16ml. 9:00 Start from free c.p Sparrows nest NR32 1UY Whapload road. What3words super.loaded.forest. (GR TM552945). Heading out from Lowestoft to Hopton on sea along coast path. Then heading inland to visit villages Lound , Blundeston, & Oulton. Then back to Lowestoft. Toilets opposite sparrow nest car park & a cafe. Toilets at Corton, Blundeston

Group Walk - 11ml. 9:30 The White Horse Inn, Norwich Road, Stoke Ash, IP23 7ET Please use their car park on opposite side of A140. (GR TM113708). The walk will be led by Roger & Yvonne. Approximately 11 miles to Eye & return with coffee stop en route. The walk will commence at 9:30am, with lunch, at 2:30pm. During the meal, there will be a quiz arranged by Hilary Magnall, & also the results of the photo competition, organised by Chelle. Places booked in advance per Roberts email invitation on the 9th October

Group Walk - 15ml. 9:30 Dunwich Beach car park, Beach road, Saxmundham, IP17 3EN. (GR TM478707). As we did not run the Flower Of Suffolk marathon this year I thought we could walk out the short route less one of the loops. From the car park we will head North through Dunwich Heath to Eastbridge before circling back via Westleton Heath, Dunwich Forest & Walberswick
General Notes
A reasonably short walk to welcome in the new year. Keeping with tradition there will an opportunity for a dip at the end so don't forget your budgie smugglers & bikinis! There is no official charge for the car park but donations for charity are appreciated. A café & toilets can also be found at the car park

Challenge Event - 50ml. 22.5 Hours. West Runton Scout Hut, Cromer Road A149, West Runton, Norfolk, NR27 9NQ (GR TG175428). 50 miles in 22.5 hours in the undulating coastal & rural landscape of NE Norfolk. Starts at 07:30 & 09.00; all to finish by 06:00 Sunday. 5 checkpoints serving hot/cold drinks & variety of yummy food. The Winter Poppyline is a qualifying event for the 2026 LDWA Hunnypot 100
