Welcome to the September walks update. The summer is flying past in the blink of an eye! However, it is not over yet and we have three walks booked in for September. I would love for somebody to volunteer to lead a pop-up walk in the next couple of weeks? For the autumn schedule we have a new initiative (brain child of Jon)-Autumn Wednesdays! These walks will be slightly shorter with a later start time to help avoid some of the rush hour traffic. Please check out the walks schedule for details as new ones will also be appearing. If they prove popular we can hopefully roll out into the winter months. August has been a fantastic month for social walks with the Summer BBQ Walk taking centre stage. Thank you to everyone that attended and to Martin and Fran for their wonderful hospitality. This year’s walk was a linear with a coach taking us to Thorpe Ness to walk back along the coast passing through Sizewell, Walberswick and on to Southwold before heading across country back to Martins house in Brampton. The day started out quite hot and sunny, before the cloud rolled in making for a perfect 21 mile stomp to ready us for the delicious BBQ waiting for us at the end! Photos of all last month’s walks can be found on the gallery page of the website Norfolk & Suffolk LDWA - 2025 Finally an important date for the diary… 10th Winter Poppyline, 14th & 15th February 2026. 50 miles in 22 hours in the undulating coastal and rural landscape of NE Norfolk. Starting from West Runton Scout Hut, the route takes in Twixt, Cromer & Sheringham. Qualifying event for the 2026 Hunnypot 100. Details and entries on SI soon. We will require lots of help for this event so please contact Jayne Cook if you are able to contribute in some form. There will be a marshals' walk in late January for those helping out. Walks Schedule for the upcoming couple of months Sun 14th Sep 2025 Circa Camulodunum Group Walk - 26ml. 9:00 Newcomen Way, Severalls Industial Park, Off A12 Ardleigh Crown Roundabout Post code : CO4 9QJ. (GR TM122287). This route is an anticlockwise circuit around the outskirts of Colchester.    Free parking at the start just off A12. To get to the start leave the A12 at Ardleigh Crown (i.e the Ipswich end of Colchester bypass) and keep in right hand lane at the roundabout. Turn right and exit onto the A12 slip road signed Chelmsford. At the bottom of slope turn left signed Severalls Industrial Estate also H A&E. You are now on Newcomen Way; at the roundabout go straight ahead (DHL depot on left). Meet on left at the end of the double yellows. In view of the overall distance, we will be making regular short stops; please bring sufficient food and drink. After 18 miles we will be making a longer stop in Rowhedge which has a Co-op open until 22:00 on Sundays. Please use street parking and consider car share where possible. Change of date to be advised. (GR TL735880). We will meet at Hockwold cum Wilton and head out to find the Little Ouse Trig point at 1.6ft below sea level (you won’t need your swim trunks). This won’t be the lowest point of the walk as this will be at -8ft! The walk will cover the minimal Fen landscape of few trees & hedges and presents wide open skies and a flat horizon. The return route takes us along the Little Ouse river with its gentle meanders and the RSPB Lakenheath reserve for any birding enthusiasts. (GR TM288503). Today we follow the River Deben from Melton through Woodbridge to Martlesham Creek, & then heading inland towards Ipswich. There is a possible drink stop, at Tuddenham’s famous Fountain pub, around lunchtime, after which we walk into Ipswich, via the Waterfront, to finish at the railway station, where we catch our train back to Melton General Notes Bring refreshments for the day. Post code IP270SS. (GR TL792832). This walk is exclusively forest although the terrain & views are constantly changing. From the car park we head along Shakers Road & complete a loop around Wangford Warren & into Brandon Country Park; cafe & toilets available. We then cross B1106 & loop around Downham High Lodge Warren towards High Lodge where again there is café & toilets. This will be two-thirds of the walk complete. After the lunch break head towards Thetford Warren before deviating off towards Shakers Road. The terrain is easy throughout with limited undulation. (GR TL498651). A circular walk in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Starting from the rlwy stn the route heads north along the River Cam to Wicken Feb (Cafe & Toilets). The route then returns south on the Lodes Way & Harcamlow Way to the finish at Waterbeach Station General Notes Just before the finish The Bridge Public House offers an opportunity for a cuppa & toilet stop before beginning your journey home Contact Sue Clements Tel: 07940 524716   Sun 19th Oct 2025 Mundesley Coast Walk Group Walk - 19ml. 9:00 Meet by Mundesley Maritime Museum, 9 Beach Road, Mundesley, nearest postcode: NR11 8BG; what3words: animals.slices.kiosk. The route will take us initially along the coast to Overstrand then will go inland through the villages of Northrepps, Southrepps & Trunch; returning with a short stretch back along the coast. Please do not park on the church car park, which is at the front. Post code IP286UR. (GR TL825747). We start from the Kings Forest car park heading into the forest to pick up Angles Way/Icknield Way, & then for a short time on St Edmunds Way. We should reach West Stow in time for a lunch stop at the church where there are toilet facilities. We then head towards & through Culford school grounds (which is a public footpath) before picking up a byway on the western side of Kings Forest, & back towards the car park. Paths are generally good throughout although some could be muddy if we’ve had a lot of rain. There is a toilet at West Stow church, but no shops General Notes 09:30 start to allow extra time for weekday morning traffic. Nearest Post Code IP9 1AB If coming from Ipswich direction pass the Oyster Reach & The Suffolk Food Hall on your Right. Continue along B1456 towards Shotley, the layby is on the left at the bottom of the hill. Starting along the river towards Ipswich through the Park & nature reserve at Bourne Hill to Belstead & Bentley Woods and over to Alton Water, returning via the various woodlands back to Freston General Notes There are toilets within the first 2 miles. A pub stop at Tattingstone around lunch time. (GR TL789715). Initially utilising parts of Icknield Way & Lark Valley path we head west & then south passing through Tuddenham & Herringswell. Just short of the A14 we will start to head back towards Cavenham & then Lackford & finally West Stow General Notes Paths are generally good throughout although some could be muddy if we’ve had a lot of rain. Please bring sufficient food & drink for the day. 09:30 start to allow extra time for weekday morning traffic. Toilets are available at nearby West Stow Country Park. Ramparts Fields car park has no charge.
