1066 Country Walk Part 1 21/06/25
Superb day leading the 1066 walk from Rye to Battle & Crowhurst, in conjunction with our friends in the Sussex group.
Great to meet Chris Kennedy and his merry men, and we all had a fab day on the trail.
Our 17 mile route took us from historic Cinq Ports town of Rye, to Winchelsea & Westfield, then on to Battle. Superb landscape in the Sussex Weald with epic views from the high ground.
Very hot & sultry all day, but sections were shaded by the woods thankfully.
Only slight disappointment was that I was only representative from E&H.
The trains were all on time (though busy)
The route was linear not circular
The weather was hot, but not extreme
The cost of the train tickets was modest (less than £17 )
It was in Sussex, though only an hour by train from London
If E&H members want regular and interesting social walks throughout the year, that are well organised, then the leaders, who put a lot of effort into ensuring a successful walk, need supporting by our large membership group.
E&H members are welcome join me for my final social walk as a leader on July 5th. All details are in the diary, on social media, and are regularly emailed to everyone by the Walks Team.
