Beach of Dreams - Whitstable to Sittingbourne

Sun 11th May 2025

Walk Details:

Event Details Updated
The train times for the walk on 11 May from Whitstable to Sittingbourne have changed. The arrival timing for the 7.20 from Victoria to Whitstable has changed and it will now not arrive until 9.58am due to a wait for the bus transfer at Faversham. The walk should start at 9.30 and ideally we would keep to that. If you are coming on that train (or the 8.20 from St Pancras which now also arrives at Whitstable at 9.58 with the same connecting bus from Faversham) please phone me on 07835 102864 by Saturday night and we will wait for that train. That will however make it a later finish time so I may shorten the walk slightly so as to arrive back at Sittingbourne in time for the 18.45 train to London. If I do not receive any calls we will set off at 9.30am as scheduled.
Event Type
Group Walk
Region

Start Time

Route
Whitstable station. Meet at main exit

Take the train at 7.30 from London Victoria arriving at 9.22. Note: This includes a bus replacement service between Faversham and Whitstable.
We would expect to catch the 18.45 train back from Sittingbourne.
The walk is mostly on the England coast path. After leaving Whitstable we follow long straight paths between the marshes and the river estuary with big views. We go through the pretty town of Faversham and have our picnic lunch in a park on a rise in Oare. The afternoon has more long straight grassy paths along the river overlooking the marshes. The last 2 miles are through the light industrial outskirts of Sittingbourne.
Paths are nearly all earth or grass so wear supportive footwear as some stretches can be muddy if it has been wet. The walking pace will be 3.2mph average with a 10 minute morning and afternoon break and a half hour lunch stop.

General Notes
Picnic lunch required as there will be no café stops during the day
