Wye Not Wander 2024

Where the Stour Valley cuts through the North Downs, Wye is the starting point to explore the countryside of the Downs and the Valley.

Look for views of the Wye Crown, carved into the chalk for the coronation of Edward VII.

Start time 8am - runners & fast walkers (4mph+) 9:30. All to finish by 6pm.

Registration opens at 7:30. NB The level crossing gates from the A28 can cause >5 minute delays. Parking limited to 100 cars. Follow marshals' directions to spaces.

Car sharing or travel by public transport is encouraged. Railway station is 300 yards from start. Entries limited to 250.

20 miles: £13 - Members, £17 - Non-members
14 miles: £11 - Members, £15 - Non-members

Hot & Cold drinks and food at all checkpoints, with a  meal at the finish. Finishers certificate provided. All entrants to carry own mug/receptacle, none provided but maybe for sale at the start. You are advised to wear suitable footwear and clothing, and carry a map, mapcase and compass. OS Explorers  137,138 & 149 (1:25,000) or OS Landranger 189 & 178 (1:50,000)  are needed to cover the route. Route descriptions MUST be carried.

All routes climb up to the Wye Crown then wend their way round to the small village of Waltham crossing several dry chalk valleys, almost all on footpaths. The 14 mile route drops down into the valley and returns along it to Wye. The others cross the Stour to the postcard village of Chilham from where the 20 mile route climbs up to follow the North Downs Way through wooded hills before dropping back into the valley for the last stretch to Wye. The 27 miles route continues away to Sheldwich before turning back past Molash and Challock churches then through Eastwell Park to get back to Wye.
