The funeral of Brian Buttifant (member 2021) who died on Christmas Eve aged 87 was held at 11am on Friday 24th January at St. Mary's Church in his home village of Kemsing, where he served on the parish council for over 50 consecutive years.

Brian was involved with Kent LDWA since the group started in 1974 and served as secretary for 11 years and chairman for 15 years.  He was the main organiser for the annual Sevenoaks Circular challenge event for more than two decades, handing over to David Thornton in recent years, but continuing to help on the event. For his service and dedication to Kent Group he was voted as our Life President in 2017.

Brian completed 15 LDWA Hundreds, and organised the Kent checkpoint on the LDWA’s flagship event for many years, travelling all over the country, the last time being on the Hadrian Hvndred in 2019.  He faced his failing health with fortitude and continued to attend LDWA events until becoming housebound.

Thoughts are with Brian’s wife Brenda, daughters Fiona and Claire, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A fuller remembrance of Brian appears on page 3 of this Kent newsletter.
