General Notes
Step into an otherworldly landscape steeped in history. China clay (used in the manufacture of porcelain, high quality paper, paints & coatings, plastics & polymers, agriculture, cosmetics & pharmaceuticals has been mined here for over 250 years. You will be walking among the old China Clay pits & the China Clay alps. The pits themselves are vast open mines, some filled with a turquoise & luminous water giving an almost tropical appearance despite the industrial origins. Experience a mix of industry, heritage, & reassuringly, a lot of natural revival . Bring a packed lunch & waterproofs. St Austell Station: ticket office, waiting room, toilets, cafe & c.p. Also a cafe near the station. No Dogs on this walk thanks (unless previously arranged)
