A circular route visiting the church at Culbone, before heading south on the east side of Badgworthy Water to Great Tom's Hill and crossing the river onto Hoccombe Hill and down to the site of the medieval village at Badgworthy Lees & heading north to the village of Malmsmead. The route then crosses the East Lyn River and back uphill to County Gate

General Notes
A hilly route which crosses a section of open moorland, which can be wet underfoot. Appropriate footwear & waterproofs required. We will be taking a picnic lunch. This route has been put on as an alternative to the two walks being carried out the weekend before on Mothers Day. But does not follow exactly either of those routes. Dogs welcome if kept on a short lead. The walk visits the areas & some of the sites described in R.D.Blackmore's book, Lorna Doone

Walk Report

This walk was the third in a series which had been put on over 2 weekends. It was specifically put on for those members that were unable to do one of the first two walks. The 3 walks differed in length and routes taken. This route of 16 miles was the only one to the east of the Doone Valley. Only one other member turned up for the walk. However we did complete it as planned and enjoyed it. Although there was a cold wind from the north, it stayed dry and mostly sunny all day.
