Portway Part 2 (in two parts)

Unfortunately there has been a disappointing uptake of the proposed walk and the transport is unviable with so few people. With a view to making this more accessible and affordable I have changed the plan to split this into 2 linear walks both of which can be done on public transport. The first part will leave Wirksworth Market Place at 8am 27th April as planned. We will then walk to Bakewell via Alport and Robin Hoods Stride - about 18 miles. There is a bus every hour back to Wirksworth, cost £2. Hopefully I can sort out the 3rd and final part for another time - there is a infrequent bus service from Castleton to Bakewell we can use. Apologies for the change, I promised to give good notice to Community Transport and I am conscious centurions may want to do something longer. Jim

Meet at Wirksworth.

Linear walk following ancient track ways from Wirksworth to Robin Hoods Stride. Having enjoyed the first section from Nottingham to Wirksworth last year we now want to complete this interesting walk which is based on ancient tracks, linking fine arable land in the east to the mineral rich Derbyshire hills

LDWA Walks

The LDWA organises many challenge events and local group social walks, as well as listing many more organised by other organisations. Challenge events are normally between 20 and 100 miles and must generally be completed within a defined time limit. Social walks are normally led walks of around 20 miles.
