Newsletter - October 2023
Hi everyone,
Apologies for the late publication of this newsletter once again. It's been rather busy of late. Luckily, with retirement rapidly approaching, I'm only working through my exit process! I'd have no time at all if I actually had to do anything worthwhile!
I took part in the 25-mile Marlow Donkey on Sunday, together with a few friends. Hopefully we'll be gaining a new member ... once her feet have recovered! It was lovely walking in the Chilterns with red kites flying above us most of the day. Hosted by the Thames Valley LDWA the route headed out to Hambleden before returning to Marlow. A second, shorter loop, took us north. There were a few familiar faces out, either taking part or hosting. It's always a pleasure to see Jim Catchpole, John Esslemont, Lucy Robins and Alan Warrington. I very much liked the blue shirts worn by our hosts. You looked very smart indeed!
Committee Meeting held on 18th September 2023
The key points from our recent committee meeting are as follows:
- Dave Purdy and Lucy Robins were invited, as they had previously volunteered to take over the roles of Treasurer and Walks Secretary respectively. Please note that we are still accepting nominations for those roles. Just don't get caught up in the rush!
- We discussed the new model LDWA Constitution. Unfortunately I misunderstood what we needed to do, which was to comment on it and feedback to the LDWA NEC. The model constitution can be found in the member's area on the LDWA website. At first glance there are additional paragraphs in sections 4, 5 and 6. If anyone wishes to comment, or ask any questions, please send them to me at wiltshire.secretary@ldwa.org.uk;
- We also discussed the arrangements for the AGM and xmas meal. We've yet to discuss the walk beforehand; and
- The next committee meeting will take place prior to our AGM.
Annual General Meeting, Xmas Meal and Walk
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled to take place on Sunday 3rd December 2023. I will be sending out a formal calling notice shortly.
The committee is proposing holding the AGM at the Bear Hotel in Devizes. Please click HERE to view their festive menu. As usual, the meal will be subsidised. You will each pay only £10.
To book your place at the meal, and make your food selection, please go to https://andy8127.wixsite.com/ldwawilts/online-store/Christmas-Meal-and-AGM-2023-p590990741
We haven't got a leader a 8 or 9-mile walk beforehand. Is anyone interested in leading on the day, please?
