Pewsey Downsaround on 28th April 2024
Hopefully you are already aware that the Pewsey Downsaround is taking place on the 28th April. For those of you that are not helping out and volunteering for the event please support us by attending. There are 4 routes, 10, 17, 26 and 35 miles, and you can signup via SI Entries at https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?elid=Y&event_id=12947. For more information on the event, please visit our information page at https://ldwa.org.uk/Wiltshire/W/8108/pewsey-downsaround-2024-information.html.
From Janette Armstrong:
January is over and it’s time for me to start planning the food for the PDA. As I got my recipes out I remembered Clive suggesting I submit the occasional recipe for the Newsletter. This one is for the famous cheese flapjacks.
If you would like to contribute some baking (sweet or savoury) for the event please let me know (alexthecat48@icloud.com). We can pay for the ingredients. The food needs to be at the Pewsey Scout Hut early on the day of the event. If you can’t get your baking there let me know and I can probably work something out. I’ll put out a further call for baking out again nearer the time.
Cheesejacks
- 150g porridge oats
- 175g grated cheddar cheese
- 1 egg beaten
- 50g melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon mixed herbs
Combine all the ingredients and mix well. Press into a 18cm square tin. Bake for 30 mins at 180 degrees (gas mark 4). You can add 175g of grated carrot to the mixture which then fills a 20 cm square tin.
50-mile Group Walk - Chips n' ham for Tea - 2nd/3rd March 2024
It looks like we will have a varied group taking part, with several from outside the group. However, it would be good to encourage a few more of you to join us. This is an ideal walk for those wanting to try a longer distance, on a route that is not too lumpy. The walk is a group walk, and as such we will all walk together, at group pace.
The route starts in Devizes, takes in Milk Hill, Avebury, Calne, Chippenham, Lacock, Melksham and the Kennet and Avon Canal, and Seend before ascending Caen Hill back to Devizes. We will stop in Chippenham for an evening meal stop, so a chance to get something hot to eat. The walk details are available at https://ldwa.org.uk/challenge_events/show_event.php?event_id=29572.
If you want more information please contact Andy Todd at andy@andytodd.org.uk.
Scotland in May
At the end of May a group of us are heading up to Scotland to walk the East Highland Way over a series of days, and then walk or volunteer on the Speyside 100.
Two houses have been booked, from 18th May, until the end of the bank holiday weekend. The first house is full, and I have 1 double/twin room left in the second house. If anyone would like to take the room please contact Andy Todd at andy@andytodd.org.uk.
