Newsletter - July 2023

Hi everyone,

I haven't got very much to share with you this month. Our next committee meeting appears to be scheduled for this coming Monday, July 3rd. I'm going to suggest that we hold it offline on this occasion.

By way of a warm down from the Elephant, Bear and Bull 100, I was invited to join Bea Therin, Janette Armstrong, Lucy Robins and Ben Staite for a walk along the 79-mile Yorkshire Wolds Way. This was my 8th National Trail, and it was by far the easiest that I've completed. If you fancy walking a long distance path, I'd highly recommend it as the first one to tackle. It starts beside the River Humber in the shadow of the Humber Bridge, and ends in the picturesque seaside resort of Filey. Those of you who have walked the Woldsman 50-mile challenge event, will be familiar with the stunning landscape in between.

Highlights of the walk included a walk across the Humber Bridge; a thoroughly wet third (of five) day walking from Londesborough to Thixendale; a very welcome pint of orange juice and lemonade in Goodmanham ... for only 50p!; a lemon top ice cream on the seafront at Filey; and last but not least the wonderful company of the aforementioned persons. Needless to say there was a lot of laughter along the way. Sharing two cars wasn't quite so pleasant. Apart from the wet dog smell in the car at the end of day 3, there was too much driving along bumpy, narrow, unclassified roads for the drivers' liking. If you happen to be on a walk with Bea anytime soon, be sure to ask her about Thixendale ... then stand well clear!
