The 38th Annual General Meeting of the LDWA Cumbria group took place on 18th October 2026
at The Belted Will Inn, Hallbankgate CA8 2NJ

Clare welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked the Secretary for organising it.
Apologies were received from Tony Deall,
Lucinda Weymouth, Martyn Smith and Pete George.
Previous meeting minutes & Matters arising:
Minutes of the previous AGM in 2025 were circulated. There were no matters arising.
Reports from the Chair, Secretary, Walks Secretary and Treasurer:
Clare reported that the recent request for help from the Lakeland group with their anniversary Spring in Lakeland 24/50 event in 2027 was no longer needed as they have enough volunteers now.
Paul gave the current figures for membership numbers since the last AGM wich has seen a healthy increase. WhatsApp group seems to be useful and both it and the Facebook group have seen a modest increase in membership over the last year.
Paul reminded those present that the deadline for booking a delegate to attend the 2026 local groups meeting in Daventry was today.
Andy summarised the social walks that the group organised over the last 12 months, 1 walk per
month with 1 month's walk cancelled due to bad weather - a total of 173 miles with average attendance of 10. No Helm Wind badges sold this year.
Barbara reported that since the donation of £100 agreed at the last AGM (£50 each to Great North Air Ambulance and Penrith MRT), the bank balance was unchanged from last year.
After a lot of time and effort on the part of Treasurer and Secretary the bank account has now been moved from Barclays to a Virgin Money Club account following a motion agreed at the last AGM.
Paul (or Barbara) to send the new bank account details to Andy for any Helm Wind badge income.
A motion to dispose of the money in the account was proposed. There followed a discussion about challenge events as an income stream, possible uses of the money in future ( e.g. subsidising minibus travel for linear walks). Also if the club were to fold, the money would likely go to LDWA central funds.
It was decided to keep the money for now. It was suggested that some of this could be used to subsidise next year's AGM meal.
Charitable Donations:
It was decided to not make any donations this year.
Group Equipment Update:
Jim stated that he still had quite a few items, Clare and Paul having taken some in the last year.
Paul will contact Jim about collecting the rest of the group items.
Election of Officers:
All officers are willing to remain in post for the time being. Officer roles are listed in the attendance list above.
Participation in LDWA events:
Group assistance on the Spring In Lakeland 3937 event is no longer required, as previously reported.
Looking forward, the 2030 hundred will be in Lakeland with Lakeland group the main organisers, so our help would be very much appreciated.
The 2027 event is based at Axminster in Devon, currently Paul and Pete George are the only entrants from the Cumbria Group.
Cumbria group 40th Anniversary
The group was formed in April 1988 by Ken Andrews and others.
Paul asked those present to get their thinking caps on and suggest ways of marking this milestone on the group's history.
Any Other Business:
Andy thanked all the walk leaders. for helping with walks during the last year.
The secretary was asked to add two more people to the WhatsApp group. (Edit: done 20/10/2026)
Date of next AGM:
This was agreed as Sunday 17th October 2027, time and venue to be decided.
