A walk from Annan, led by Andy

 

Saturday January 24th saw nine walkers congregate at Everholm car park adjacent to the old motte and Bailey castle.

We headed downstream first crossing the River Annan and following cycle route No.7 to Newbie works, then along part of the Annandale Way to the cairn and information board of the start/end of this walk depending upon which way you are doing it.

Returning via Newbie itself we retraced most of our outward route to the car park, five miles, where we had a short break and picked up our rucksacks as we didn't need them on the first section.

 

The next part was upstream on the east side of the River Annan which was fast flowing after a lot of recent rain. After approx three miles we crossed the road at Brydekirk but continued on the same side of the river until Hoddom bridge, the B725 road. At the junction of the B725 and the B723 is a car park and a couple of picnic tables and this is where we had our lunch break after 11-6 miles.

 

Since departing Annan on the second section we had been walking upstream now it was the reverse, downstream but on the west side of the river. Once again we crossed the road at Brydekirk but on the other side of the bridge this time, once under the A75 it wasn't long before the prominent Town Hall of Annan was visible and very close to it was our last river crossing of the day and down Battery Street once again to the car park and finish having done eighteen miles.
