On a lovely sunny morning seven LDWA members departed from the car park on the South Tyne trail near Coanwood at 08-30. Passing the site of the old Coanwood station we left the railway formation just before Lambley viaduct.

Now heading south along the top of Hag wood and into Towsbank wood where some remains of a former mine were observed before leaving the wood and down to Eals, now the weather was  getting warmer.

Staying and progressing in a similar direction we arrived at Williamston and after crossing the South Tyne we picked up the Pennine Way still heading south, until passing under the railway line near Lintley.

As this was our most southerly point on this walk we followed the A689 for a short distance and followed field paths to Greenhaugh, crossed the Knar Burn here and then with difficulty followed the intermittent path downstream to the Knar burn railway viaduct where lunch was taken in the shade!

Having completed approx two thirds of the walk we went under the viaduct and linked in to the Pennine Way again but this time heading, north this was followed to Burnstones and onto the Maiden Way still on the Pennine Way which was left just before the A689 this was crossed and paths followed to Lambley and the viaduct which was crossed and within a few hundred yards the circuit was complete leaving only the short section to the car park and finish at 15-45 having walked 15-25 miles and 1,793ft of ascent.
