Seven members met at the layby near the Pheasant Inn,
Bassenthwaite. The walk started at 0830 with very cloudy skies and the
possibility of rain in the afternoon.

From the layby we crossed the A66 and headed for the Derwent river bridge on
the B5291 road. After crossing the bridge we turned left at Herdwick farm and
followed the path through Buckholme wood and past Long Close Farm onto the
road towards Iselgate farm. A short way along the road we took a path off to the
right which goes past the farm on the north side and down to Isel church.
At Isel church we turned left up Kirk Hill then right over Isel bridge and up the
hill to a T junction where turned right onto the road to Cockermouth. After a
short distance on the road we turned left onto a track through Hills wood up to
Watch Hill. At the top we right into open fields where we treated to some good
views towards Cockermouth and the surrounding countryside and over the
Solway.

From Watch Hill we followed the trail down to the road and turned right on the
outskirts of Cockermouth after having a coffee break on a bank on the way
down. After a few metres along the road we turned left along a track past Wyndham
Hall to Annfield Farm. Just before the farm the track turns left and the footpath
goes straight ahead through the gate and along the top of the field. This leads
to a stile beside a gate tied with barbed wire. After crossing the stile (or gate)
we turned left and followed the path past Slate Fell. When dropping down the
other side we angled across the corner of the field to reach a gate into an
overgrown lane which we followed down to the A66. After crossing the A66 we
continued along the lane through Westray and past a quaint little holiday
cottage until we reached the road at the far end.

At the road we turned right and walked up the road to Hall Bank. At Hall Bank
we turned right through the fields towards Shatton Hall. On reaching the road
we turned sharp left along the road to Jenkin. A s we neared Jenkin there was a
nice grass verge with a bank where we had our lunch break.
After lunch we went a short way up the road then turned left to Jenkin then crossed the
fields to High Side where we turned left and headed for Beckhouse. At
Beckhouse we turned right into a lane which we followed to Green Lonning. As
we turned up the hill we took the path on the right round to Bladder Keld. After
going through the gate we turned sharp left upwards following the line of the
fence. At the top we turned right and proceeded to the top to Ling fell then on
to Eskin.

At Eskin we turned left down the hill and turned right at the bottom and
proceeded to go through the gate. Here we turned left up the hill beside the
wall then following the path round to the right until we reached the road. We
followed the road back to the car park.

The finish time was 1530 and the distance covered was 16 miles. The walk leader was Allan Ousby
