Dorset LDWA

Dear All,

Dorset and BCP Council areas have been placed in Tier 2 from 2nd Dec. This means that group walks of up to 6 can resume, and we are waiting to hear from the LDWA National Executive Committee if larger groups may also be allowed, with a risk assessment. I'll keep you posted.

We already have several walks on the programme, and hopefully more in the pipeline so keep checking our website for details, and remember to book your place in advance. If you later decide that you can't attend, please let the leader know so they can allocate your place to another keen walker.

He are some more details from Colin about his Winter Solstice Walk - spaces still available:

Hello Druids,

To celebrate the Winter Solstice there will be a Dorset LDWA group walk on Monday 21st December.  The walk will start at the entry to Durlston Country Park in Durlston Road, Swanage (SZ032779).  There is plenty of free on-road parking in Durlston Road, we will then meet at the park entrance at 07:30.  It should be quite light by then but the first part of the walk is through woods, so having a torch to avoid tree roots etc would be a good precaution.  We will walk to Durlston head to watch the sunrise across the bay at about 08:07.

We will then head to Swanage town centre for breakfast.  If Dorset and BCP are still in tier 2 restrictions on 21st December, this is likely to be a takeaway, or outside seated, breakfast, but if we have been moved down to tier 1 then we will have breakfast in one of the cafes.  The Dorset group will subsidise breakfast for primary group members.

We will then head to Swanage seafront (or other suitable point) for the actual solstice.  In the Northern hemisphere, the Winter Solstice is the moment when the sun is furthest South of the equator. This year this will happen at 10:02 on the 21st December.  We will then continue on a walk.  The total distance will be about 15 miles so I expect to finish early afternoon.

The walk will be limited to six people and must be pre booked, there will be no entries on the day.  To book your place phone, message or email Colin, the walk leader, details below.

Finally, if you feel able to lead a walk, please send me the details;  I know our members are enthusiastic about getting out and enjoying some company and good walking.

Best Wishes,
