Greetings and welcome to the Dorset branch of the LDWA, either as a Primary or Associate member,

Here is some information which we hope will be useful to you, if you have not discovered it already by exploring our website (https://ldwa.org.uk/dorset) or chatting to us on a social walk.

If you have not already joined us on a walk, we look forward to meeting you and walking with you very soon.  Our walks secretary, Tracey, works hard to coordinate a program of social walks. Details of the walks can be found at: https://www.ldwa.org.uk/Dorset/E/0/future-events.html 

Sometimes walk leaders ask members to contact them prior to the walk, but most are happy for members just to turn up on the day. See individual walk details for more information.  For social walks it is usual to bring a packed lunch, plenty of water to drink and a plastic bag or mat to sit on if the ground is wet!

In addition to the social walks, our group organises two challenge events each year. Participants come from all over the country to navigate themselves around a set route and call in at checkpoints for refreshments. Places on challenge events must be booked in advance via the SiEntries website and there is a modest charge to enter. Our next challenge event, The Dorset Doddle, will take place on Sunday 18 August 2024.  More details here https://ldwa.org.uk/Dorset/M/376/challenge-events.html These events are made possible by members of the group who volunteer to help on the day - there are many 'jobs', as you can imagine.  The 'marshals event', which will take place this year on Sunday 21 July, gives volunteers on the main event an opportunity to walk the route, while doing a final check of the route and route description so we know it is all in good order for the main event.  If you are interested in volunteering for the main event (and entering the marshals event if you would like to, however it is not a requirement) - Tracey would be delighted to hear from you.  dorset.ldwa.walks@gmail.com 

We also organise occasional social events and residential trips away for Dorset Group members. You can find out about most of our events on the Dorset LDWA website: https://www.ldwa.org.uk/dorset 

The group committee will also send out emails with updates on walks, extra walks added at short notice and invitations to Dorset Group member-only events. If you would prefer not to receive these emails, and to have only the minimum communication required by our constitution, you can change your settings using the link at the bottom of this email.
