Welcome to the Dorset Group of the LDWA

Please see below, in brackets, the email we usually send to new members. Some of this information does not apply at present as unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, we have had to greatly modify our activities. Following a period in which all walks were cancelled, we are now have a new programme. Some walks are limited to 6 members, including the leader, while others offer more places, at the discretion of the leader, up to a maximum of 30. A risk assessment is required for all walks with more than 6 in the group and this will have been completed by the walk leader.  To see what is on offer please go to:

If you would like to go on a walk it is essential to contact the walk leader to book your place.

We will also send you emails with updates on walks, extra walks added at short notice and invitations to Dorset Group member-only events, when these become possible once more. If you would prefer not to receive these emails and to have only the minimum communication required by our constitution, please let me know.

Our pre-Covid information is in the brackets below. I am including this so you can see how our group normally operates.  

[We are a thriving local group with a comprehensive programme of led social walks, mostly in Dorset, and sometimes in the adjoining counties. We have on average 2 or 3 weekend walks each month, usually on Sundays, and some midweek walks too. There’s no need to book in advance for social walks, just arrive at the start in plenty of time - NB. this is not applicable at present, see above.

In addition, we organise 2 challenge events each year, when walkers come from all over the country to complete a defined route in a set time. For these challenges, walkers navigate themselves around the route and call in at checkpoints for refreshments etc. Places on challenge events must be booked in advance.

We also organise occasional social events and residential trips away, just for Dorset Group members.
