I am stepping down as Group Secretary at the AGM in December, having reached the end of my term under the current constitution. Regardless of the constitution, I think three years is long enough in this key role and it is time for someone new to have a go. (I will happily remain on the committee as an ordinary committee member (if duly nominated and elected!)) The reason for announcing this now is to give members plenty of time to think about this way of helping the Group, which provides us all with a lot of interest and enjoyment. Do not expect another person to come forward - if you don't, they won't!

Basically the main tasks are

• identifying and welcoming new members,
• working with other committee members on various group activities,
• communication between us and other groups and LDWA nationally (in conjunction with the rest of the committee),
• arranging dates and booking the meeting room for committee meetings and the AGM,
• writing the minutes of the meetings,
• sending bulk emails through the LDWA admin system (like this email)

I will happily talk to anyone about what's involved. You are only committed for a year because all the officers and committee members have to be re-elected each year, so you can always try it and see, although you are likely to be more effective if you serve for the full three years (if re-elected each year!).
