Hi All,
As many of you will be aware our Chair, Chris Pitt, will be standing down at the AGM, having served the group admirably for longer than our constitution usually allows. We, the Dorset Group are therefore in need of a new chair-person!
Please think hard about whether you could fill this role, or support someone else to come forward and let me know of any nomination(s) you would like to make, as soon as possible, by emailing dorset.ldwa.secretary@gmail.com
To help you make up your mind please see below details of the role, taken from the LDWA website:
ROLE OF THE CHAIR
All local groups are required to have a Chairperson as one of the three compulsory officers according to the constitution. The role of Chair will normally be for a term of three years and cannot be carried out at the same time as the role of Secretary. An integral part of the role is to support and ensure that the aims and objectives of the LDWA are met. The following are lists of essential and desirable characteristics and responsibilities of the role of Chair as devised by representatives of the Local Groups.
Essential: • Available to chair meetings – tell them the requirements • Good understanding of the constitution • Overview – check that all roles and responsibilities are covered by the committee • Check that decisions are carried out • Control meetings within timescales but give everyone a voice • Safeguarding • Work with other committee members, especially the secretary • Provide leadership
Desirable: Should have the following qualities: • Good communicator • Good listener • Diplomatic • Decisive • Able to delegate • Mediator • Encourager • Give support
I know Chris would also be happy to answer questions or discuss the role with anyone interested.
Please do not reply directly to this email, as it is from an unmonitored email account used for outgoing messages only.
Pat Clifton
