Welcome to our latest news update.
Special Committee Meeting
The next OPEN committee meeting will be held on Wednesday October 7th, 7pm, The Drop Inn, Elland.
Before the general meeting there will a presentation from and to The Yorkshire Air Ambulance to who we have donated £750 from Calderdale Crawl surplus.
Please come along and support your group. If you would like a lift from the Huddersfield area give me a call 07773450860
Congratulations
1) To Tom Airlie who completed the Merseystride group's 32 mile 'Open to Offas'. "A fabulous day with stunning views and over 6,000ft of ascent. Great support at checkpoints and a well stocked variety of refreshments."
2) Tom was also one of at least 6 of us (I suspect more) who completed the West Yorkshire group's 'One Foot in the Gargrave' on Saturday 5th September. The others I know of being Kath Finn, Sue Hodgson, Shaun Mabey, Neil Midgley and Noel O'Connor. Special thanks to West Yorks for another superbly organised and welcoming event.
There may well have been other members who were successful on these or others events but if you don't let me know I can't give you a shout out. I am certainly aware of a number of Associate members who were so congratulations to all of you as well.

Holmfirth Walking Festival - Thursday 1st to Sunday 4th October
You may have seen that the piece I put in our newsletter of 29th May was reproduced in the August Strider (pages 58 & 59). The festival provides a programme of walks of various lengths up to and including our 16 miles on the Sunday. Meet at Holmfirth Library at 8.30am. See Holmfirth Walkers are Welcome facebook page or Kirklees Council site for details of the other walks.
Forget Me Not Childrens' Hospice
The appeal in memory of Matthew Walker, by family and friends who tackled the Calderdale Crawl, has now topped £1,400 (with Gift Aid more than £1,700). Anyone still wishing to support the hospice can go to justgiving.com/page/cathryn-miller-1
Christmas Walk and Meal - Saturday 5th December
Yes, I know it's too early to mention it but just to get it into your diary! Based this year on Robinson's Farm Kitchen, Northowram, Halifax, HX3 7SH, a walk of around 7 miles will be followed by our Christmas meal with the first dozen or so funded by the group - Get your name in!!!
New Members
A warm welcome to those who have joined as Primary members since the last newsletter
Michael Walker, Brian Whitehead and Em Andrews
I'll be in touch and we look forward to meeting you at a walk or meeting.
Branded Clothing Offer
You are hopefully already aware that the group will pay for Calderdale and Kirklees lettering to be added to branded LDWA clothing purchased from the national site (preferably bottle green). However, having seen someone wearing a shirt at the 'One Foot' event on Saturday it strikes me that there is no reason that this cannot be done retrospectively. So if you already have logoed clothing and would like to add the Calderdale & Kirklees endorsement - please get in touch and we'll try to arrange things.
Social Walks
Besides our own as mentioned above, others nearby in the next month include ...
Sun 13 Sept East Lancs Todmorden/Burnley 22 miles
Sat 19 Sept Irregulars Calderdale Tributaries, Cragg Vale 17 miles
Sun 27 Sept East Lancs Hot Toddy (Todmorden) 18 miles
Weds 14 Oct Irregulars High Stones, Stocksbridge 18 miles
That's all for now, All the best, Neil
