Challenge Events

Planning for our Calderdale Crawl on Saturday 1st August is well underway with over 50 entries even at this early stage. Don't miss out if you intend to walk/run or get in touch if you feel you may be able to help on the day.

We have decided that our annual challenge will alternate between the Crawl this year and a new Kirklees Krawl on Saturday 7th August 2027.

As I said in the previous news, I would like to recognise the achievements of members. I will need to restrict this to Primary members in order not to be overwhelmed by LDWA members in general. I will try to check results of events which I know about but, otherwise, I may only be able to give you a shout out if you let me know - don't be shy! As a starter - Tom Airlie, Kathryn Finn and Susan Hodgson completed The Cracoe Cracker on 21st February and Sandy Gee the Howarth Hobble on the 14th March - Well done all!

Coming up, on the 22 March is Blubberhouses Moor and, although though not an LDWA event, a few of us are tackling the 35 mile option of the Calderdale Hike on Saturday 11th April. I'll let you know how we get on afterwards!

Branded Clothing

After much deliberation (see recent meeting minutes) it has been decided that the easiest way forward this time is for individuals to purchase LDWA logoed garments from Peco via the national website 'Shop'. Those that wish can then pass these to me (at a meeting or otherwise) for SP Designs to add 'Calderdale & Kirklees' lettering (£6 embroidered, £5 printed). For the sake of uniformity it was decided that we would buy Bottle Green garments where possible.

New Members

A welcome to the following who have joined us as Primary members since the last newsletter.

Paula Baker-Parkin, Brian and Amanda Benner, Joanna Martin, Russell Sill

We look forward to meeting you on one of the walks.

Hubberton Hikers Annual Dinner and Awards

Kathryn Finn and Susan Hodgson are members of Hubberton Hikers as well as Calderdale & Kirklees LDWA group. Last year they completed the 214 Wainwright Lake District Principal Fells. I was privileged to be asked to attend the Hubberton event in order to surprise them with various awards in recognition of their achievement.   Well done.

Lost Irregulars Buff

Stephen Pickard lost his Irregulars buff on the Hebden social on Saturday 7th March. He thinks that this was probably in the Mytholmroyd church car park. If anyone has found it can they please get in touch.

Navigation Course

I have had a couple of requests to put on another Navigation Course. Only a couple at this stage and certainly not enough to make one viable. If numbers warranted, it may be possible to do so in the Autumn. Let me know if interested.

That's all for now, All the best, Neil Midgley. 07773450860
