PAST EVENTS

1) Social walk, The Hebden - Saturday 1st March 2025

Starting in Mytholmroyd, 'The Hebden' is an annual challenge hike, with 15 or 22 miles options,. Organised by the Halifax Sea Scouts, it is described by them as being "a tough event with a substantial amount of climbing", "not suitable for beginners", and having "breath taking views". After a group of 14 tackled the route on our social I'm sure we all agreed with those sentiments. Sandy Gee led the full route with Paula Pickersgill taking charge of the 15 milers when the split was reached. The weather was clear and dry throughout. A cold and frosty start from Mytholmroyd reduced any potential muddy sections and by mid morning we were enjoying periods of mild sunshine - and those breath taking views.

2) Navigation Course - 9th and 16th March 2025

This years course attracted 13 participants (4 Calderdale, 3 East Lancs, 1 East Yorks, 1 West Yorks and 4 Non members). The first day was largely centre based and the second out on a walk putting things into practice. It was, again, very well received and several of the non members have said that they will now join up. Whether the course is staged again next year will depend purely on demand. I have no dates yet but welcome any enquiries or expressions of interest. If going ahead I would then contact you nearer the time.

MAPS

Three OS Explorer 288 'Bradford & Huddersfield' maps were bought by the group for use on the Navigation Course. These are now available for any member to borrow for their own walks or if needed for events. I will take them along to meetings or simply contact me and we'll make arrangements.

All the very best to you all, Neil Midgley, Calderdale Secretary, 07773450860, neil.midgley49@btinternet.com
