Hareshaw Linn c.p in Bellingham GR: NY840834, postcode: NE48 2BZ

A 20 mile circular walk with 2073ft ascent.
From the c.p we walk through Bellingham, cross the North Tyne & go south along the Pennine Way, passing through open moorland & several bastles. After crossing Warks Burn, we head east, keeping to the south of the Burn, until we reach Wark, where we cross the North Tyne again. Heading North, we walk along the River Tyne trail as well as sections of the old Border Counties Line. Situated high above the Tyne are ruins of a bastle by High Carry House. At Redesmouth, we follow the Wannie Line up to Crossing House, with a topiary peacock in the garden. Turning west we traverse the desolate moors above Bellingham & head back down to the c.p

General Notes
The snowdrops - ‘Fair Maids of February’ - are in full bloom with a particularly lovely display at High Moralees & along the banks of the North Tyne. There has been a lot of rain, so paths are muddy & stiles, boardwalks & bridges are very slippery. Gaiters & hiking poles are recommended. Although we should arrive back before dark please bring a headtorch. Drinks at First & Last Brewery Taproom Dogs are welcome but must be covered by pet owners’ liability insurance. Dogs must be on a lead when passing through fields with livestock
