Anne's Xmas Walk

Saturday 17 December 2022

Distance: 10 Miles

Leader: Anne Webb

A new route had been planned for the 2022 walk, however with the elements being somewhat challenging, an update was sent out to the effect that the walk would go ahead, but on a reduced mileage and safe route.

On Saturday morning I really did not know if there would be any takers.  The lure of fresh coffee, warm mince pies and pastries was enjoyed by four walkers, plus me before setting off at 08:30

A grassy route to reach Intake Lane was fine, and then avoiding the ice started, but stopped as we approached the car park.  Walking anti clockwise past the boat park, then picked up the track that contours under the quarry. The descent back down to the main res was taken with caution. Kevin decided to put to the test his new ice grippers, which worked well,  but even better when he adjusted so that both feet had the spikes crunching into the ice. Continued around the main res, and returned to Dovestones Sailing Clubhouse at 11am for elevenses.  Picture taken by the lit tree  ( which did have some decorations put on it the following day).  Homeward bound via the former Fletchers paper mill, Greenfield village, picked up the canal for a while, until aborted for safety via Well-i-hole  .

A short walk,  but we all enjoyed some fun, chatter and fresh air.

PS the sailing event did take place on Sunday – the ice had gone in the main, but it was very gusty winds. I did not sail, but walked around the res, and generally helped out, before serving mulled wine to the sailors in the boat park after finishing.

Wishing everyone a good Christmas, and see you all in 2023.
